Signed Books
Charlie Stross and Laura Lam have both agreed to sign books for me on request.
I can usually arrange for current hardbacks or paperbacks to be signed, dated, dedicated, etc. The process often only takes a few days – it depends on how busy they are at the time.
Details of current titles are on each author’s page here.
Ken Macleod has moved away also, although I hope to be able to continue to supply signed copies of any new titles when they come out.
Brian Ruckley has moved sideways into writing for the comics industry (Transformers!) so, while I can get his books signed, there’s been nothing new for years…
Hannu Rajaniemi has relocated to California and can no longer sign for me although I do still have signed copies of some of his books available.
The process:
Contact me with what you’d like and where you’d like the book, or books, mailed and I’ll advise you of the exact price and confirm the details. Books are sent via the Royal Mail and, as a rough guide, a hardback sent within the UK is probably £3.10, to Europe £8.50 and elsewhere (ex USA & Australia/NZ) £14.00 airmail… (Based on the wrapped package weighing <1kg). A/NZ is £16.45 and the USA is £19.23 inc. the fee for the ‘international tracked’ service
Paying:
PayPal: tell me and I’ll send a PayPal Invoice (which asks for things like address as well)
Cards: phone with the details or e-mail the details (inc. address, expiry date, and 3 digit security code as well. Also the issue number (if aplicable) and the address the card is registered at. For security, maybe split the details over a couple of messages…
Cheques: in Sterling only, payable to Transreal Fiction.
The phone goes straight to the answerphone, but start to leave a message and I’ll pick up (assuming I’m there!)

I also often have other signed books in stock – currently I have various books including titles by Eric Brown, Jonathan Carroll, Brian Lumley, Peter V. Brett & Peter F. Hamilton. These are available only as plain signatures. See three of my posts earlier in the year (posted in May & June, iirc) for further details and photos.

Hi – used to pop into the shop all the time when I worked in the Grassmarket – miss getting my Dan Simmons US imports!
Popped in again recently on a work treasure hunt so very annoyed that I couldn’t buy Robert McCammon’s newest!
Cheers
Hi. I’d be more than willing to sign books for your customers as well, though coming as they are from the states there would be a considerable delay. My wife regularly mails books all over the world for her review site, so it wouldn’t be that much of a hassle for me to do the same for your shop from time to time.
I’m just honored that you offer copies of my “Tales from the Magitech Lounge” (one of my favorite novels so far) in your store, and hope someday to travel to Scotland to visit in person.
Hi Saje; thanks for your offer! I’m afraid I think the shipping costs are prohibitive (esp. now the £ is down below $1.50) for long-distance signing to work.
The authors who have agreed to sign books for me all live fairly locally and find it quite easy to call by personally any time I ask them…
Sorry to have to say no to your offer, but I will be stocking you new book come February!
All the best,
Mike
Yeah, I figured that might be a problem. Sorry about that. Thanks for stocking my stuff.
Have to say the service these guys offer is excellent, 1st class all the way.
Very helpful and excellent service, prices OK too!
Hello, I am looking for a copy of Words of Birth and Death by Hannu Rajaniemi.
Signed or otherwise. Please let me know if you have a copy for sale or if you know where one can be obtained. Please note that I live in Canada. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Regards,
David
Hi David, I have a couple of signed copies left. The price is £4 plus postage to Canada, which for a small parcel between 100 and 250 g is £4.75
Contact me at enquiries@transreal.co.uk and I can e-mail you a Paypal Invoice.
Mike
Just wanted to say thank you Mike for remembering my interest in HRs’ books and writing then supplying a signed, dated and lined copy.
Well packed and a very good price ! Your excellent customer service is appreciated.
John
Thanks for the kind words, John.
Nice of you to say 🙂
Sadly, he’s leaving Edinburgh and I won’t be able to get any further books of his signed, so I’m glad he was unexpectedly able to sign volume 3 for people he had signed previous volumes for.
Thanks for the two copies of ‘The Free’ by Brian Ruckley and getting them signed etc. Well packed and speedy service. you do an awful lot for your customers, thank you.
John
Mike, I went ahead and placed my order via the Paypal invoice. The shipping address is to the United States so understand that postage is more than listed. Will you need me to make an additional payment? That is no problem, just wanted to know how you wanted me to handle the difference. Thanks and look forward to receiving the book. This is much simpler than other routes that I have taken to get the UK firsts of Mr. Stross’s books.
I bought my first C Stross from you, the last time I was in Dun-ei-dinn ( 2003 ) A very early copy of Singularity Sky.
I’m hoping for a signed copy of “Dark State” when available, since Charlie doesn’t come to London as often as he used to ….

Hi, I’m looking for a signed copy of A Darker Shade of Magic, collectors edition, do you have one? Many thanks Tracy
Hi Tracy, Sorry, I sold out of my signed copies long ago and probably won’t get any more signed copies of her books…
