Frank Frazetta

One of the iconic fantasy artists of all time died a few days ago, aged 82.

Anybody who read fantasy books during the last 50 years could hardly be unaware of him, or his influence on the field of fantasy art.

Maybe 10 years ago a customer of mine who collected original fantasy art obtained Frazetta’s home phone number from an art dealer he knew. Initially reluctant to phone him, he plucked up courage and made the call to the USA and found himself talking to Ellie, his wife, who merely said to this strangely-accented Scotsman phoning out of the blue, ‘You want to speak to Frank? Hang on, I’ll get him.’ And they proceded to have a long conversation, although who knows what Frazetta made of it!
So, one admirer, at least, felt his hero lived up to his hopes!

Well done, Frank.
