Christopher Anvil

Christopher Anvil died aged 85 (I think) recently. He was never a particularly prolific author, but in the 1960s and 70s his name was a welcome sight on magazine covers, etc.

He mainly wrote linked short stories, often fixed-up later into novels and Baen have recently re-issued most of his work in omnibus editions. Pandora’s Planet was probably my favourite (it was a DAW title in the early/mid 70s) but, annoyingly, the Baen reprint is already out of print again… As in many of his stories, the cunning Terrans outwit the slightly dim aliens, despite the aliens having a huge empire and resources!
